July 2 (Bloomberg) -- Manor Care Inc., the operator of nursing homes and assisted-living centers, agreed to be acquired by the Carlyle Group for $6.3 billion.
Manor Care shareholders will receive $67 a share in cash, the Toledo, Ohio, company said today in a statement on PR Newswire. That's 20 percent higher than the closing price of $55.75 on April 10, before Manor Care said it would explore putting itself up for sale.
Owners of health-care facilities have become acquisition targets or gone private as medical costs have risen. Community Health Systems Inc. agreed in March to pay $5.1 billion for Triad Hospitals Inc. HCA Inc., the biggest U.S. hospital operator, went private in a $21.3 billion deal in November.
